How many scripts have you scrapped vs kept?
How many scripts have you scrapped vs kept? As in, do you scrap more than you keep? Or do you keep more than you end up scrapping? I say it's sometimes 50/50 for me. I have a box full of scrapped scripts. I keep most of them as I like to go through them and see the cringe roll over. But I also like to keep scripts that I wrote when I was younger. Gives me ideas and helps me with my writing.
Anyway, I have a smaller box of scripts I am proud of. But it's slowly growing in size. 🙂
I've not really scrapped any, but I have put some on hold. I have the usual problem of having more ideas than time to write them all!
When I'm on one that I really love it's easy to zone in and stay focused.
I scrapped a few in my early days, till I learnt how best to plan (treatment, etc) an idea before starting to write them. But, even then sometimes by the end of the first act, the story does not seem to be going in the right direction? Then I'll scrap it.
Don't keep writing... till you know how.
I would say I scrapped quite a few. I'm one who likes to keep pretty much everything I write, so there are times where I'll hold onto a script for years and be like, nope, that's not going to work anymore, and I scrap it.
I mostly scrap scripts that I know would never make it.
I couldn't tell you how many times I scrapped a script. Probably more than I can count. Most of what I scrap is early draft stuff, not very far into anything, so it's not as bad as it sounds. Most of my lengthy scripts I still have on me.
